Learn the answer to “How long is a Texas real estate course completion certificate valid” with a practical overview of Texas real estate licensing requirements, education, exams, and next steps.

A Texas real estate course completion certificate generally does not expire on its own. Once you finish an approved pre-licensing course and receive the certificate, it is usually accepted as proof that you completed that education requirement.
That said, the certificate is only one part of the licensing process. To become licensed in Texas, you still must meet Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) requirements, including completing education, submitting fingerprints, filing your application, and passing the licensing exam.
If too much time passes, other parts of the process may become outdated even if the certificate itself is still accepted. For example, you may need to satisfy current application rules or retake steps if your licensing process has stalled for a long period.
It is also important to keep your records organized. If your certificate is lost, damaged, or unavailable because the school changed systems, you may need to request a replacement or transcript from the provider.
TREC may ask for proof of completion, so having the original certificate or a backup copy can save time. Keeping both digital and paper records is a good practice if you are in the middle of licensing or plan to apply later.
Because licensing rules can change, it is wise to verify current requirements with TREC before relying on an older certificate. This is especially helpful if you completed your education some time ago and are only now applying, retesting, or resuming the process.
If you are still working on your coursework, Leap Real Estate offers a Texas pre-licensing course designed to help you stay aligned with state requirements: https://leaprealestate.com/state-licenses/texas-pre-licensing. In short, the certificate usually does not expire, but the rest of the licensing process can be time-sensitive.
