Start your licensing education with LEAP's Texas real estate pre-licensing course, designed to help you complete the required coursework online.
To renew a Texas real estate license, you generally need to complete the required continuing education, make sure the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) has received your course completion hours, and then submit your renewal application and fee through the TREC REALM Portal before your license expires.
For most sales agents and brokers, renewal includes completing the state-required education for that licensing period. In Texas, this often means core classes such as legal update courses and other qualifying hours, depending on your license status and renewal cycle.
It’s best to finish your classes well before your expiration date. That gives the school time to report your hours to TREC and leaves room to fix any issues before the deadline.
After you complete the education, confirm that the credits show in TREC’s system. Your certificate alone is not enough, since TREC must have the hours on file before your renewal can move forward.
Next, log in to the TREC REALM Portal to complete the renewal application and pay the fee. Have your license information ready, and review everything carefully before submitting.
If your license is close to expiring or has already expired, different rules may apply, including late fees or reinstatement steps. Renewing on time is much easier than dealing with a lapsed license.
If you are pursuing your first Texas real estate license instead of renewing, a good starting point is Leap Real Estate’s Texas pre-licensing course: https://leaprealestate.com/state-licenses/texas-pre-licensing. Always check TREC’s current requirements and fees so you can stay compliant.
