Start your licensing education with LEAP's Texas real estate pre-licensing course, designed to help you complete the required coursework online.
In Texas, the process for getting a real estate sales agent license begins with the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) after you complete the required pre-licensing education. The basic steps are to finish the coursework, apply through TREC’s REALM Portal, complete fingerprinting for a background check, and wait for eligibility approval before taking the exam.
Before you apply, make sure you meet Texas eligibility requirements, including the required education hours for a sales agent license. You’ll need your course completion certificates ready to upload with your application.
Once your education is complete, log in to or create your account in TREC’s REALM Portal and submit the application. You’ll enter personal information, answer background questions, and upload proof of education, so accuracy matters to avoid delays.
Texas also requires fingerprinting through TREC’s approved process as part of the background check. This step is essential, and you typically can’t move forward until it’s completed.
After TREC reviews your application and background information, you’ll receive authorization to test. At that point, you can schedule the licensing exam with Pearson VUE.
The exam covers both general real estate concepts and Texas law and practices, so studying Texas-specific material is important. If you are still choosing a school, Leap Real Estate is one option for the required pre-licensing education: https://leaprealestate.com/state-licenses/texas-pre-licensing.
After passing the exam, you may still need to complete final activation steps, including sponsorship by a licensed Texas broker if you plan to work as an agent. Because fees, deadlines, and requirements can change, check TREC’s website before applying to make sure everything is current.
