After you pass the Texas real estate exam, you are not automatically ready to practice on your own. The next step is to make sure every remaining Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) requirement is completed so your license can move toward active status.
In most cases, that means confirming your application is complete, your fingerprints and background check are on file, and any final administrative items are finished. Once those pieces are in place, monitor your license status through TREC and the state licensing system.
Passing the exam is an important milestone, but your license is only usable once TREC has issued it and it is properly activated. If anything is missing, your status may show as pending or inactive, so it pays to check regularly.
The most important practical decision after passing is choosing a sponsoring broker. In Texas, sales agents must work under a licensed broker to practice real estate, so you need that relationship in place before showing homes, writing offers, or taking clients.
This is also the time to think about what kind of real estate career you want in Texas. Different brokerages may focus on residential sales, luxury homes, commercial properties, investment clients, or team-based support, and a good sponsor can help with training, leads, compliance, and day-to-day guidance.
If you have not completed all your education requirements yet, double-check those too. Texas licensing rules include specific pre-licensing and application steps, and some applicants need to finish remaining education or paperwork before the license is fully processed.
In short, passing the Texas real estate exam means you are close, but not finished. Complete any remaining TREC requirements, watch your license status, and line up a sponsoring broker so you can begin working legally and confidently in Texas real estate.
