Understand “What are the rules for real estate teams in Texas” and review the Texas real estate rules, licensing steps, education requirements, and practical details that may apply.

Texas real estate teams are allowed, but they must operate under the rules of the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) and the sponsoring broker. A team is not a separate brokerage, and every team member must be affiliated with the same broker.
Team names must be registered with TREC before use and must follow Texas naming rules. In general, the name should end with “Team” or “Group” and cannot be misleading or imply that the team is its own firm.
Advertising rules are especially important. Any ad must clearly identify the team or individual license holder, and the sponsoring broker’s name must be displayed prominently. TREC also requires the broker’s name to appear at least half the size of the largest contact information in the ad.
Teams should avoid language that makes them sound like an independent company. Phrases that suggest ownership of listings, separate office status, or a stand-alone brokerage can create compliance issues if the broker relationship is not clear.
This applies to more than just print ads. Social media posts, yard signs, email signatures, websites, and online listings all count as advertising and must follow the same disclosure rules.
For anyone planning to join or build a team, it helps to understand licensing and supervision requirements early. A Texas pre-licensing course can be a useful starting point for learning how broker oversight and team structures work in practice.
Because rules can change, it is wise to confirm current requirements with TREC before launching a team name or marketing campaign. The bottom line is simple: Texas teams must stay under one sponsoring broker, use a compliant team name, and advertise in a way that clearly identifies who is responsible for the brokerage services.
