Review “How much experience do I need to become a broker in Texas” with an easy-to-follow explanation of Texas real estate licensing rules, required coursework, testing, and important next steps.

To become a Texas real estate broker, you generally need at least four years of active experience as a licensed real estate sales agent or broker within the 60 months before you apply. Texas wants to see that you have real, hands-on experience in the business, not just an inactive license.
You also need to meet a transaction requirement. In most cases, Texas requires at least one qualifying transaction in four of those five years, which helps show that your experience was active and meaningful.
TREC also uses an experience-point system, and you must earn 720 qualifying experience points. That means your work history has to add up in the way Texas defines broker-level experience.
Experience is only part of the process. You must also complete the required broker education, pass the Texas broker exam, and meet the other licensing rules set by the Texas Real Estate Commission.
Your application will depend heavily on documentation. TREC may ask for records proving your transactions, the work you performed, and whether those activities qualify under Texas rules, so keeping detailed records is important.
If you are not close to the four-year mark yet, the best approach is to build consistent experience now. Work under an experienced broker, focus on real transactions each year, and make sure your activities count toward broker eligibility.
Licensing rules can change, so it is wise to confirm the current requirements with TREC before applying. In general, though, Texas broker licensing requires four years of active experience, qualifying transactions, 720 experience points, and the required education and exam.
